Unlocking the Secret to Selling Simple Digital Products Online
You won’t believe what people are buying online. I’m talking about simple checklists, meal planners, daily challenges—things most of us already have sitting in a forgotten folder on our desktop. The crazy part? You can create these kinds of digital products in a weekend using just Canva and ChatGPT.
Here’s the thing no one tells you when you’re looking for ways to make money online: You don’t need a huge following, a fancy website, or a bunch of tech tools. You just need to start with what you already know.
In this post, I’m going to show you how to take that knowledge you have, use Chat GPT to refine it, and turn it into a simple digital product people will pay for. Let me tell you a quick story before we dive in. When I first started exploring digital products, I kept overthinking it. I thought I had to be the expert of all experts. But then I saw someone selling a craft room declutter checklist for $7, and it had over 2,000 comments. That’s when it hit me. People aren’t just buying information online. They’re buying shortcuts. They’re buying solutions. They’re buying small wins. Most of us already have something we’ve figured out that could help someone else.
Step 1: Brainstorm Your Digital Product
Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to go to Chat GPT and feed it some context. You could say something like, “I’m a mom of three who’s figured out how to meal prep on a budget,” or “I’ve been journaling for 10 years and have created prompts that helped me deal with my anxiety.” Then ask Chat GPT, “What kind of simple digital products could I create from this experience?” You’ll be amazed at the ideas it gives you: planners, trackers, challenge guides, templates, printables. Let it help you brainstorm and then write down anything that excites you.
Step 2: Validate Your Idea
Now that you have a few ideas, let’s make sure people are searching for them before you build anything. Go to Google and start typing in your product idea. What does autocomplete suggest? Are people asking questions about your topic? If yes, that’s great. That means you have an audience. Next, click on Google Shopping and search for your idea there. Are there similar products for sale? Great. That means there’s demand. You don’t want to create something so original that no one’s searching for it.
If you’re feeling stuck on what product to create, I’ve put together a list of 10 digital products you can create fast, even if you’re starting from scratch. You’ll find the link for that down in the description.
Step 3: Develop Your Product
Okay, so now we have a valid product idea. Let’s go back to Chat GPT and take it one step further. You could say something like, “Help me outline a 7-day email challenge for beginner vegetable gardeners,” or “Give me a table of contents for a guide on how to organize your home in 30 days.” You don’t have to start from scratch. Let Chat GPT help you shape the product before you even open Canva.
Once you have your outline, head over to Canva. Pick a simple, clean template and replace the placeholder text with your own words, following the outline you created in Chat GPT. You can create a one-page checklist, turn your outline into a mini-ebook, or make a weekly planner or journal page. Start simple. You don’t need this to be 20 pages. One really helpful page can sell.
Engage and Grow Your Audience
Let me know in the comments what kind of digital product you’re thinking about selling. I’ll be in the comments and would love to help you shape it. And if you’re thinking, “Well, this sounds great, but I wish there was a plug-and-play system for all of this,” good news! My $7 shortcut to selling your first digital product is almost ready. You can join the waitlist at the link in the description and be the first to know about it.
Now that you’ve got an idea for your digital product, the next step is attracting people who want to buy it. In next week’s post, I’m going to show you how to create a simple lead magnet that gets people to join your email list so that when you launch your product, you already have an interested audience to sell to. Trust me, email is where the magic happens. So, make sure you’re subscribed and hit the bell so that you don’t miss it. And while you wait, download that freebie below and start building something you can sell by next weekend.
